CNY Enviro Groups ‘Thank’ France for Support of Climate Change Research

An event in Syracuse this weekend pointed out the differences in policy and support for climate change science between the Unites States and France.  Cornell Atmospheric Science Professor Louis Derry received a research grant from the French government, which was part of some international jockeying.

President Macron, after Trump decided to pull out o

f the Paris climate accords, decided to make a statement here.  So he put out this call for proposals,” Derry said.  “And he’s pretty clearly positioning France to be a leader in this area, both within the European Community and globally.”

French President Macron called his climate research program “Make the Planet Great Again” – mocking President Trump’s campaign slogan.

The local group “Climate Change Awareness and Action” titled their event “Make America Magnifique Again” to capitalize on the issue.

Professor Derry is researching how climate change affects water quality from rainfall, in rivers and in streams.  He says declining U-S support for science research is having impacts.
