A driver killed when his car crashed into a truck in Poway, causing a succession of collisions that injured several others, was identified Thursday.
Aluctec Galindo, 40, was killed after he lost control of his Kia Optima on Community Road at Metate Lane and slammed into another car driving the same direction, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office (ME). Galindo then drifted into oncoming traffic and his car was struck by a pickup truck.
Galindo was pronounced dead at the scene at about 4:30 p.m.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department (SDSO) said Galindo was driving at a high rate of speed, and believe he was at fault in the crash. No other details were specified.
The crash spurred several other collisions, SDSO said. The driver of at least one other vehicle was taken to the hospital with injuries. SDSO said several other drivers were also injured. Their conditions were not known.
A traffic advisory was issued, and both north and southbound lanes of Community Road were closed at Metate as investigators worked the scene.
SDSO was investigating what caused Galindo to collide with the truck and drift into oncoming traffic. It was not clear if drugs or alcohol were suspected.
